OUR HISTORY

River of Life A.M.E. Church is a vision realized as a result of a "marriage" of two churches coming together to become one.  Two smaller A.M.E. churches in the heart of Milwaukee - Allen Chapel and Robert Thomas Jr. - were experiencing fluctuating growth due to the changing demographics and labor market in the city.  Membership of both churches agreed to merge in October 2010 and work through the transition of bringing people and resources together with the goal of building one vibrant, healthy, and impactful community of believers.

We met with much success because of the favor of God and the willingness of people working as one to accomplish this goal.  In October 2011 at the 129th Session of the Chicago Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, approval of the church merger took place as well as the adoption of the new church name River of Life A.M.E Church.

Our church name was birthed out of John 7:37b-38 (NKJV), "...Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.  He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'"

Our church motto is "The Place of Possibilities."

The mission of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people.
